What is CCSVI?
A diagnosis of CCSVI is confirmed when imaging demonstrates abnormal venous blood flow within the jugular and/or azygos veins. The initial cornerstone in the diagnosis and treatment of CCSVI is the pre-procedure imaging.
Among the most comprehensive imaging available is the pre-procedure imaging performed at Synergy Health Concepts in Newport Beach, California. The information from our comprehensive pre-procedure imaging provides our physicians with a roadmap, which increases the overall safety of the procedure.

How is CCSVI Treated?
Synergy Health Concepts’ treatment for patients with CCSVI, dysautonomia and other neurodegenerative conditions is comprehensive. From initial consultation through post-procedure care, all of your treatment is provided by our caring and competent team at our state-of-the-art medical facility. Treatment includes a 7 step process which includes a medical procedure.
The actual procedure includes the venographic and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) evaluation of the jugular, azygos, renal, and spinal veins. It also involves valvuloplasty/venoplasty of all abnormalities identified during the diagnostic process.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
The procedure is the key element of the treatment process. Your procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in our new state-of-the-art facility. You will be asked to arrive one and a half hours prior to your procedure. The procedure generally lasts about one hour. You will remain in the recovery area for a minimum of two hours.
What are typical patient results?
Treatment improves autonomic function. Relapse rates for autonomic symptoms can be categorized to a large degree by a patients anatomy. Favorable anatomy is seen in the majority of patients. In our experience relapse is very uncommon in this group. Symptomatic improvements are seen to be maintained beyond two years. Less commonly unfavorable anatomy is seen and the symptom relief lasts a few months.
What are the Risks Associated with CCSVI Treatment?
Available evidence would best characterize the procedure as safe and of low risk. The average complication rate in published studies is 1.6%. This is in keeping with Dr. Arata’s overall complication rate of 1.2% upon review of over 200 Synergy Health Concepts patients. The most likely adverse event is developing a blood clot in the jugular vein. Thinning the blood after treatment helps prevent this from occurring. Less commonly, a patient can develop bleeding or an abnormal heart rhythm.
How long would I be in Southern California for the treatment program?
Normally you will be in Southern California for five days.
How Much Does Treatment Cost?
All Synergy Heath Concepts (SHC) patient treatment and associated costs are determined on an individual basis, which is dependent upon each patient’s medical needs. The patient’s co-insurance or out-of-pocket costs will not exceed $10,000.
